It’s a trade-off though: if you reduce preload on BBCSO, you’ll find your RAM usage drops, and disk & CPU usage will increase as it does more just-in-time loading. Typically - not always, but typically - sampled instruments are more hungry for RAM and/or disk throughput than synth instruments, and less hungry for CPU than synths or effects. But if that doesn’t work for you, and you’re staying with Macs (I would) then I would get more RAM and/or faster disks would help most… but if you keep an eye on the performance monitor you should start to get a rough idea of what’s maxing out for you. I think you should be able to run your orchestra on that machine, especially if a workflow involving freezing tracks, etc. That essentially smoothes out the load and prevents a short spike from pushing Logic into overload. I don't find this is necessary generally with everything else, but if your workflow is more demanding per track, then this will help. Freeze tracks when you're not actively working on them.

The default is, if I recall, 12288 it worked for me at 3072, but think I raised it to 6144 for a non-BBCSO plugin - a bit of trial and error is required.

The M1 macs can shift data between SSD/memory/CPU very quickly (so you don't need as much headline RAM as a PC would), so you can take advantage of this by preloading less.

Try reducing the preload in the plugin's settings.

If you haven't already, set Logic's 'LCD' to 'Custom', and have it display performance monitors.

Ditto microphones: sometimes it's better to get things mostly right on a single mic, then do the detailed mic mixing afterwards.I only use one articulation per track (partly for timing/EQ issues), but if you use multiple articulations in one instrument then you'll need to actively cull the unused ones.I do this for everything in the template, and switch tracks on only when I want them.

To switch tracks off properly, Option+click the On/Off button in the track header. In the Spitfire template (unless it's changed), plugins will load on demand - so even highlighting a section's track-stack can result in everything loading.

You need to make sure your unused tracks are *really* 'Off': that is, the instrument plugin is greyed-out in the track inspector.

I was so out of options as I've reached the end of what I know and have tried searching online but can't find anything. I usually make contemporary music so I've never had this issue before. I'll be honest in that whilst I know the basics of tech in order to get by I'm still very new to Orchestration, sample libraries and using logic for those things. However it still crashes due to CPU overload as most times I'm using most instruments and quite a few articulations (to achieve as real a mock up as possible). I have honestly tried everything I can, getting a fast external SSD, closing all other programs, leaving any channels I'm not using off.

It works well for most things but I use mostly BBCSO and their template for Logic (with a few tweaks depending on what I'm working on) in order to do my music scores etc. So I've currently got an M1 Chip Macbook with the 16GB RAM etc.
